Help my toddler is spinning...!!!

No i'm not looking for an exorcist...just a little advice...

My ds, 13 months and 1 day, has this week started to spin...he stands in the middle of the room and spins around and around with a big grin on his face...he keeps going til he can't walk in a straight line and or falls flat on his face...he sits, rests, giggles, and then starts again...he's quite happy and I haven't interferred just played many a game of catch the baby!

ANyhoo, I wasn't worried about this, figuring its just a new trick that he'll soon bore of, until a 'helpful' friend suggested that it may be down to stress, behavioral probs as he was settling in at nursery last week ready for me to go to work this week. He was really stressed early in the week, but by friday was fine...

is spinning normal?

He probably does it because he likes the buzz!
My son used to do it a lot,unfortunately one day he careered into the corner of a table and nearly knocked his front teeth out so be vigilant!

Both of mine have done this at some stage -judging by the manic grin on their faces when they stop spinning and are dizzy and fall over I've always assumed they like the buzz too.

Little ones tend to be thrill seekers IMO -look at the fun they get from being thrown in the air and caught, being held upside down and tickled etc (obviously all done in a controlled, safety conscious way, before someone tells me off for lobbing toddlers in the air with gay abandon!)

oh god, with friends like that............surely this is something all kids do at some stage.my daughters has been doing this on and off for months, its free and its fun.ok chance of falling and hurting themselves but you cant wrap them up in cotton wool etc etc

Thanks for that...it's good to know that he's not alone and i'm not destroying my sons confidence, introducing future neuroses and then sitting back and laughing at his coping mechanisms!

I will bare the safety comments in mind, we already spend far more time in a&e than i'd like...partly due to my neurosis but mostly due to his 'curiosity' (as my dh just put it)...i'm sure social services will call anyday!

DD now 3.5 has gone through many phases of this and I always put it down to liking the dizzy feeling. Now she can tell me she likes being dizzy doubt it is something to worry about but dontcha just love well meaning friends

I remember doing this as a very small child - I loved watching the flowery pattern on the LR carpet whizzing round and going all blurry. It was fun. He is obviously highly intelligent and imaginative.

my son's been doing this all day as well he's the same age! lol.

I blame DH - he spins him when he's holding him and joey finds it incredibly funny!

ds loves this - everyone has their drug of choice his happens to be spinning until he falls over and then carrying on until he can't get up any more.

Another spinner over here. dd will spin until she topples over, again and again.

My ds 22mths has just started doing it too, again giggles like anything when he does it, I wouldn't worry just make sure the area around him is safe
