my baby boy is 5 weeks old and he is a content sleeper so no problems there! only thing is he will not settle unless he is being held when he is awake and most of the time he will still cry on/off until he feeds or sleeps. his nappies are clean and i know it's not anything to do with him feeding (BF) because he is putting on loads of weight and great nappies.
he won't even settle in a bouncy chair or a cot or even just led down if not being held!
i can't do anything while he's awake not even go for a wee without him screaming! i really do not want to give a dummy though!
someone give me some advise please?????????

My baby was like this and it ended up being silent reflux. Does your baby spit up a lot? Or if not does your ds cough when laying down?
My baby didn't spit up as they don't win silent reflux but he used to cough and it was down to that.

Or with your son only being 5 weeks he could just be colicky. He's still so tiny and may be seeking comfort; at this age they need lots of it!! Try lots of skin to skin and cuddles. Sleep when he sleeps and make sure you get rest while you can. I can sure you it does get better.

as for the dummy that's entirely your decision? It may give you a break though. i breastfed with ds and he also hand a dummy and there was no nipple confusion. Most are fine with it.

I’d be tempted to try a dummy OP! It’s up to you of course.

thankyou very much for your comment! i will have a look at silent reflux as i'm not even sure what it is! he doesn't often spit up or cough when led down though! just hreaks my heart when he's unsettled a lot makes me feel like i'm doing g it wrong!

Aww no problem I promise you it does get so much better. My ds is now 9 months old and it's so much easier. I noticed a major turning point at 6.5months but it gets better a little bit at a time before then too. They say the first year is the hardest with the first 6 months being the worst and they're not wrong! You're doing an amazing job as a Mummy; just keep on doing what you're doing. One day soon your baby will give you a big gummy smile and all of those doubts and 'what's ifs' will melt away and you'll know it was all worth it. I used to think i was doing everything wrong. I was constantly glued to google researching every little thing when in reality all babies need the most is love, comfort and basic needs met. I wish I'd relaxed off abit and enjoyed it more but not easy when sleep deprived. Don't pressure yourself as sounds like you're doing an amazing job. They grow fast and this phase will pass. Cry when you need to, sleep when baby does, have that piece of cake when you want it and go easy on yourself....it's very early and you and baby just getting to know each other and it takes time Flowers

Consider getting a sling....(life changing for me and many others I know).
