He's 5

Wanted some advice, my 5 tear old is inyear 1. He’s bright, articulate and a great little lad, his teachers say he’s just a boy, typical full on behaviour, super bouncy but likes to be good so does as he’s asked if he’s getting a bit much with his bouncy behaviour

At home he again behaves but when excited or bouncy he doesn’t listen to us - his big sister is 9 and gets really frustrated with him and he’s just basically full on, literally throws himself into situations whether he’s welcome or not (other kids)

I’m struggling to work out the methods of controlling him and I feel like a shit mum when other mums look a bit 👀 at his craziness .... any tips?

How much outdoor exercise does he get? Having been in a year one classroom as an assistant, I've noticed there's lots of rules about sitting down and not running in school etc. Playtimes are quite short and he may just be a bit wired. I have an energetic 16 month old and I can't imagine her in school lol. Also got an older DD who's now in secondary school so understand the age.

My advice is as much exercise as possible and try and be calm about the rest. Sounds like he needs to run more and let off steam. That's the trouble with school, not enough time to play and move their bodies! You're not a shit mum!

Exercise is probably key to taming bounciness. Running with his father (or his mother), tennis lessons, rugby, dance, cricket, judo. Good hard physical effort.

Does he walk to school? Could you lengthen journey and add in a play in a park or similar?

Thanks guys - he gets lots of exercise swimming, Park, bikes, walking etc and he’s just bouncy til bed, occasionally he gets tired out and he has a sit down and then he’s off again - I wish I had his energy lol 😂

Saying that I guess I could put him out to run and play football more
Often in the back garden - he’s actually quite sweet today and not too bouncy and we’re having a pyjama day ..... I wonder if he just gets over excited
