Babbling, sounds and speech in a 12 month old. What's 'normal'?

First question, what is babbling? ds made oohs and aahhhs at 4 months and moved on to adding consonants at almost 10 months. At nearly 12 months his sound set is small. These are the only sounds he makes, sometimes loads a day, sometime hardly any at all:

mamamama
dadadada
bababa
a-boo
Bo!
Ba ba (once when he waved and I thought he might have tried to say bye-bye )
yayayaya
He points at everything shouting "Bwah!"

Does this sound about right? I thought he would have a wider range of noises by now and something that sounds more like a foreign language. Any thoughts?

Well, I hope it's about right because it's almost exactly what my ds - nearly 13 months - is doing too! Sometimes he 'chatters' a bit to himself but usually it's just a combination of what you've mentioned. I think it's pretty normal.

(Also he has the strangest laugh sometimes - 'ahurhurhurhurhuuuuuur' like an old man! Very bizarre )
