DD was measured at her 7wk check yesterday and has only grown 1cm since birth. Meaning she has dropped from 50th to 2nd centile. Her gead circ is also down from 75th to 2nd. Weight still at 50th though I wouldn't say she was very chubby.

DS is 20 months and also did this - from 98th to off the bottom of the chart and then back to 2nd for height. Though he did it much much slower (over 9 months) and his head is sill huge.

I'm now stressing a friend of the family is a hv and stressing about dd a bit. She also expressed concern that ds isn't growing much and has had the same shoe size for 5 months.

Any words of reassurance? I'm 5'5" and dh is about 5'7"

I'm no expert and I don't know if that's anything to worry about but my dd grows very slowly. She's just turned 2 and is in 12-18 months clothes and we have to turn up most of the trouser legs as they are an inch or more too long. BTW, dh is 6'8". Hopefully someone with more experience will reply soon.

Thanks Gilll - anyone else?

I don't know either, but I also concerenced about ds. He's 19months and wears 12-18month clothes which are a bit big.

All of his 'friends' are so much bigger that him.

I was wondering if I aught to make an appt with someone (dr? HV?) to check.

Both my DDs are on 'target' to reach 5'9". (I'm 5'6 & DH is 5'9). But my DS, who is nearly 4, is really short. He mostly wears age 2 trousers, he was born on the 50th and then dropped off the bottom of the chart, he's currently on the second line up (I think). DD2 is 15 months younger than DS and weighs only 2lbs less and is likely to be taller than him by the end of the year. Most people already think they are twins.

His grandfather is really short - 5'4 - so I guess DS is either taking after him or he's going to grow several inches over night when he's older. Although so far he has grown steadily but slowly, the girls by comparison grow in huge spurts.

Time will tell I suppose.

I wouldn't worry yet, your DCs may just have a slow growing season. Besides, babies are notoriously difficult to measure because they're so curled up (my DD1 was recorded as having shrunk by 1cm in her first few weeks - not very likely is it?!). If your HV is concerned she'll suggest you see GP or a consultant.

DD1 was a tiny baby - well under 6lbs at birth at nearly 42 weeks - and under 10th centile throughout childhood. She had the same pair of shoes for about 18 months at one point (from about age 4 - 5½) and was one of the 2 smallest in her year until she was 14-15.

I am 6', DH is 5'10, his mum is barely 5' and one of my grandmothers was under 5', and HV assumed throughout that DD1 would end up about 5'2.

When she finally finished growing she was 5'7 with size 7 feet

All kids are not average and they do not all grow according to charts!

DD2 (22) who was always 75th-90th centile, also ended up about 5'7. DS1 (18) was 50th centile throughout childhood and is now about 6'2. DS2 is nearly 14 so hasn't finished growing yet - he has always been on a high centile and is very lanky atm, almost as tall as his sisters, but many of his friends are currently taller than him and we have no idea how tall he will finish - I have given up even trying to guess!

magicfarawaytree · 05/04/2007 21:30

thing to remember about those charts is that it a normal distribution curve. therefore all ranges along it are normal. my friends dd very slender has a very small head- commented on by the hv oooh bit concerned about the size of her head - was walking round at her 8 month check. she is one of the brightest children I know. there are many other factors to consider.

Hi! I'm new and a little confused to the abbrevations. I have to say though that this is the best thing I've read on these forums. I have stressed about my 10 months height from the beginning. He seems to be going down the centiles in weight and height. I'm 5ft and husband is 5'10 the hting I worry about is that my dad is extemeley small and he'll take after him. I worry so much about this and it's so nice to know that other people are experiencing this also(not that i'm happy you're stressing - you know what I mean)

NorksBrideAtEastertide · 06/04/2007 23:33

Hey Peets, welcome to MN.

If you haven't found it already, there is a list of abbreviations (and other help) - it's above this message, one of the bold headings on the left 'Useful Stuff', there is a Getting Started and an Acronym List. Might help.

See you around!
