9 year old behaviour

Hello,

Hoping someone can offer some advice, guidance or even just a little empathy. My 9 year old boy is just the sweetest lad most of the time, he is funny and bright and very loving. BUT...when he is in a bad mood or something has made him cross he is an absolute terror - he cries, yells, sometimes he swears, he storms off to his bedroom. Sometimes he will throw something across a room or tip something over (my clothes airer got knocked over last week). It's usually short lived but when he is 'in one' it's ridiculous. I don't punish him for getting upset about things but i do punish him for throwing things, swearing and knocking things over. And by punish, I mean something will be removed - laptop or ipad or playdate cancelled etc. We limit the time he spends on his devices and he doesn't play any games that are innapropriate for his age etc, he gets a good amount of sleep and plenty of love and attention. I want to know if these outbursts of anger and emotion are normal for a boy of this age? And can anyone offer any guidance for how to deal with this behaviour? He has always been an emotional boy but how can we try and help him control these angry outbursts?
