Rather than highjack another thread that's going on, I just wondered whether it is necessary to puree food for initial weaning or whether it can be lumpy from the beginning?

My gut reaction is yes because they are used to putting all sorts in their mouths (toys etc)..........????

la la LAAA! BLW! just give them the food and let 'em eat it if you've waited til 6 months, you don't even have to mash if you don't want to.

It can be- be giuded by your child and how they handle it. Ds was feeding himself crackers weeks before he would accept anything mashed on a spoon. We waited till 25 wks before letting him loose on crackers
