DS kept knocking his dummy out with his hand when I put it in his 5 months although has been very effective. Yesterday he got to sleep by sucking his thumb (and for all his sleeps since), but he is finding it very difficult now if I pick him up he wants my boob to suck on and gets very upset if I don't give it to him but do not want to get into bf to sleep.

He screams settles himself for a few seconds with his thumb then screams again. I feel awful leaving him to cry.

We have gone over 24 hours without dummy now but feel cruel not giving it back. This is a horrible situation!

He'll be fine! Just make sure you put the dummy away. When I was a baby and my mum wanted me to get rid of my dummy she told me to get rid of it through the window. Needless to say, the following week I turned up with my dummy (smiling from ear to ear) with garden rubbish all over it!
