5 year old aggression

Please can you give me some advice/words of wisdom?? My 5 year old ds is mostly a good, well adjusted bright boy. But when something doesn't go his way or he is disappointed he lashes out. He just sees red & hits out. He has hit me & his dad & a number of other children. When he is calm, he can talk about it & says a feeling of anger wells up inside & he feels cross & wants to hurt someone. He understands that it is wrong & we have explained that children won't want to play with him. He also has a consequence such as no Tv or time out or privilege taken away. Teachers really supportive for now, & as yet no negative comments from other parents but I feel it's only a matter of time! Has anyone else been through this & resolved it or child's grown out of it? I'm starting to worry what will become of him! Thanks for your help
