advice needed please

hi my ds 8 years this month has had a strange rash on his back just in one spot, it looks like clustered spots that are very red, he has 2 single spots on his side and 2 small patches on his chest, he is acting fine within himself and im thinking this rash could be shingles as he has already had chickenpox, what i want to know is, is it possible for kids of his age to get shingles, have any of your children had shingles?

Think shingles is normally painful, and the spots normally appear in a line/part of a line round the tummy/chest

But someone more qualified than me will be hopefully be along in a jiffy to give more info!

Yes - my ds2 had shingles when he was about 9 or 10. He was a bit off colour - he had had a flu type bug just before he got the shingles. Shingles appears when you are run down from something else. Just make sure he has rest and a good diet so that his immune system can recover. ank keep away from anyone in the early stages of pregnancy.

Having said all that - it doesn't sound like the classic distribution of shingles rash. the spots usually follow the path of a nerve. The spots are usually very painful.I guess I would assume it is shingles unless it becomes more obviously something else.
Are the spots all at one level - i.e. do they go around his ribcage at roughly the same height?

hi thanks for ur replys, yes i took him to see the nurse pescriber this morning and she said it is shingles, in reply to ur question 3littlefrogs, it does appear to follow the line round

That is the clue that suggests shingles - you can "draw" a line - a bit like "dot to dot" along the pathway of the nerve. Hope he is better soon.
