3 year old wont let me take her to the toilet, then wets herself

My 3 year old daughter has been toilet trained for 5 months now. In the last week she has had an accident every day. When I try to take her to the loo she either goes mental and jumps off, or sits there, tries to go and does nothing, yet wets herself just half an hour later! She's been drinking very little, but apart from first thing in the morning, I haven't actually seen her doing a proper wee in the toilet. She hasn't asked to go for a while.

Anyone else encountered this before?

Maybe a water infection? Might be worth a trip to the gp to rule it out.

My Dd2 has just started doing exactly the same thing. We had a camping holiday where she just seemed to forget how to be potty trained, and had multiple accidents a day. Toilet trips were excruciating, the whole campsite could hear her screaming. I booked an emergency doctor appointment because I thought there must be something wrong (there wasn't) and the doctor said it's unusual for toddlers to get urine infections - but obviously always good to be certain. Not a lot of advice I'm afraid - we're just riding it out and giving her lots of praise when she does manage it, but you're not alone with this!

My 3yo did this a few months ago despite having been trained for 15m. It turned out to be an independence/power thing in our case: she didn't want to be taken to the loo or even asked if she needed it, she wanted to do it all herself. At its worst it was awful. I'd ask her to go and she say she didn't need to then keep looking me in the eye as she wee'd everywhere We put her back in nappies (proper 'baby' ones, not pull ups) for a couple of days and a bit of peer pressure from her friends at the childminder did the trick. She said she wanted to try knickers again and with a bit of discussion we decided she would be trusted with knowing when to go for the most part at home, but she needs to go when we ask before going out etc. This has mostly fixed the problem, although she does sometimes still get carried away playing and has a mini accident on the last minute run to the loo (just wet knickers, rather than wet trousers/socks/shoes!). She'll get there
The not drinking part would worry me though, and I'd take her to the doctor to rule out a UTI. Does she say she's not thirsty? Can she give you a reason why she's screaming that you can try to decipher?

So, the accidents seem to have stopped thankfully, but she is still hugely against going to the toilet. Spend my day asking if she needs, and she either ignores me or shouts no. If I do persuade her to go, she gets very aggressive and if I try to help her she has a tantrum. Problem is she can't really wipe well herself yet so gets into a mess, poor thing.

Such a shame as she had really got the hang of potty training and seemed to really enjoy the whole process! Now it's just become a battle ground!
