5 yo putting hands in mouth

Ok, so bit of back story.
I have severe hyperhidrosis (constantly sweaty, it's an absolute nightmare) but along with that, I used to have a habit of licking my hands to keep them damp (please no judgement, I know it is absolutely gross and inconsiderate, etc, all I can say is until you experience a compulsive behaviour you don't know what it's like...).

Anyway. I've always thought I was quite subtle about doing this, and it may well be total coincidence, but DS 5yo has started doing the same thing. He is just like me and a very sweaty boy, but he constantly has his hands in his mouth, in spite of warnings about germs etc. He keeps doing it and says it makes him "feel better". DH wants to put that nail biting stuff on DS to try and get him to stop, personally I think that's a bit cruel.

Anyone else have an orally fixated child? Or any advice on how to manage the behaviour? Other children have started to comment so I'm worried about that, but also that I have inadvertently taught my child this behaviour.
TIA
