Good book for toddler behaviour?

My three year old DS has recently started running off in public places and we're struggling to get him to understand how dangerous this is and in getting him to listen to instructions generally. I think (hope!) this is normal and will pass but I worry we're not handling it properly and coming down to hard on him.

He gets very upset when he thinks we're cross with him and doesn't seem to be doing it out of naughtiness, just a lack of control (he's a very confident and active personality)

Just wondering if anyone knew of any good books or techniques for managing this kind of behaviour?

My DS who is 2yrs 8 months does exactly as you have described and have been worried that's it's him and not a phase so it's nice to hear (in a strange way) it's not just me!! I'm very interested in other replies you get to help as struggling too
