What age could your kiddies count using fingers...to the extent they are able to ask for three of something and hold up 3 fingers?

A lot of children can recite numbers before they 'get' the "threeness" of 3.
Pretty normal to learn to understand that during Reception - so 4 - 5 years, I'd say.

I'd say a bit younger than pp. my ds could do up to 3 by 2.5, up to 5 by age 3 and gradually extended from there.

Why do you ask?

DS is 3.5 and can do proper counting up to 5 ish. By which I mean if I said give me 4 eggs he would give me the correct amount. Show the correct amounts of fingers and can take one away or add one to that amount if I said something like it's 3 sleeps till holiday he would know the next day it was now 2 sleeps. He's only been able to do this in the last few weeks. Can recite numbers up to 15 or so but wouldn't be able to do anything with these numbers, he's just learned the order of them.

Thanks all!
DS has started to do it and I hadn't twigged it was something he couldn't do iyswim
