My dd is nearly 6 and a delight in many ways BUT is driving me crazy with her rudeness and lack of co-operation. I have shouted at her all week and feel crap! Not only that, but it has no effect either-probably why I feel crap cos I know it doesn't work! It is like living with a stroppy teenager.
Anyone else's dd like this? Seems like a girl thing from the stuff she says ie "Your hair looks rubbish", "If you don't (anything for her benefit) then I won't be your friend" (strop off, slam doors etc!)
God this makes me sound so pathetic and ineffectual. I'm a 2ndary teacher too! Can handle the real stroppy ones but my own dd being so surly all the time is grinding me down.

my dd is 6 as well and is excatly the same i'm a childminder and have read all the books etc apart from screaming at her constantly which was really grinding me down, i've now started with an attitude chart. basic behaviour chart ,i give her a warning [pencil cross] then a pen cross and i'm letting her choose a treat, day out, picnic, little toy. Can't say shes an angel YET but i think she is pausing a bit before being so stroppy

Glad its not just mine then!

DD (5) frequently tells me Im ruining her life, and that she wont be my friend.

Tonight she said "you are fuck" which i ignored as I wanted to laugh - I know she got that from one of the boys in her class who has ADHD and a few other problems and who's mother doesnt think swearing is a problem. She often says "bloody" after she's been playing with him too. Im going to ignore it unless it becomes too frequent.

For all that, she tells me every day that she loves me!

not just girls, my son is 5.5 and is so rude ' you are a poo' never stops, it is often very hard not to laugh. He has a very loud and deep booming voice and has been known to say: 'im going to give you a black mark on the calendar .... if you dont do what I say then im going to just throw you in a skip ... put you outside .... i'm going to hit you ... no you do what I say...... Then when my aunt came to visit he said to her 'im going to kill you'. This is a boy who is as good as gold at school - a jeckle and hyde who thinks he's boss in our house.

Phew! it's not just me then!! latest offering was tonight when darling dd said "you're a stupid idiot and a useless mummy" because I wouldn't hang her coat up for her! While we were at friends at the weekend she kept telling me to go and sit in the other room because I was "embarrassing" her. Was just sitting chatting with friends!!! Also asked me to walk behind all the others so no-one would know I was with them. Aah aren't they lovely -kids?
