How do I stop my dd picking her nose?

My dd seems to have her finger permanently up her nose and it is driving me bonkers. How do I stop her doing it? Would tying her hands behind her back be unreasonable? She eats what she finds as well!

so does mine - have told her it is private but she does it all the time. I think one day one of her peers will point it out and that will stop it!

Don't have any suggestions but will watch this thread with interest as DS2 (3.5) has just started doing same but also eating it! I tell him it's dirty and full of germs or his finger will get stuck up there and all the usual lines but not really making much difference to be honest.

PinkButterfly and I obviously have the same DS!!!!

HEIFER · 28/03/2007 13:29

no advise - but want wait for the answer!

DS2 is 8.5 and still a compulsive nose picker and eater - he doesn't even seem to know he's doing it. I've seen him do it in class PLEASE let someone have a solution/cure!

I knew I wouldn't be alone on this one. Judging by the number of adults I see picking their noses - usually while driving -I think this is something they don't just grow out of! I hope that peer pressure will eventually work DimpledThighs but she was picking her nose in the middle of ballet last week and didn't seem to mind....

I told my DD that when she wipes her butt she gets poos under her fingernails and that's what she will eat when she picks her nose. Plus I told she she will get BIG nostils.

Bananaknickers · 29/03/2007 15:34

what about putting that nail varnish on them that stops you biting your nails?

CadburyCremeSquonk · 29/03/2007 15:35

Buy her a handbag - have it in the crook of her elbow and hold on to the bottom of it.

Two handbags if necessary.

Bananaknickers · 29/03/2007 15:36

my brother used to pick and eat and I remember us all catching him one day and my mum says " want some salt on that". we laughed. He was about 12

Cashncarry · 29/03/2007 15:37

Bilby - LOL!

Bananaknickers · 29/03/2007 15:37

Do you reckon anyone actually stops though or they learn to do it in private. Wonder how many calories are in a bogie

saralou100 · 29/03/2007 15:39

see, my problem is how to get him to stop putting stuff up their.. no-one knows how to stop that either

PinkTulips · 29/03/2007 15:44

dd is 2 and has started this... drives m up the wall... i was hoping she'd grow out of it but reading this i'm scared!

tortoise · 29/03/2007 15:46

My DD1 picks her nose too but while sucking her thumb. She then rolls the bogie/snot up and down her nose while sucking her thump.Yuk!

Tony Ross's book 'Don't do that' on this subject is very funny and clever.
