Stupid stupid question! How long should newborns sleep for?

I feel really, really dumb for even having to ask BUT my memory of DS1 at this age is a bit hazy...

DS2 seems to sleep - constantly. He's 2weeks old yesterday and even sleeps through his feeds? Only time he seems to wake his wash or changing times then he conks again?

MIL keeps saying they do all their best growing in their sleep but I do seem to have more memories/pics of DS1 being significantly more active even at this young!

Should he be sleeping quite so much? Or is he just a lazy boy lol

You mean he wakes for feed and then falls asleep while you're feeding him? Totally normal. They're mega sleepy at that age, I love it!

Yes exactly what I mean! Haha I suppose I'd better enjoy it while it lasts!

Does depend on the child. Dd1 hardly seemed to wake up for her first fortnight. She was about 3 weeks old before I got a photo with her eyes open.
Dd2 screamed for the first two hours of life. Then decided she was awake. She discovered the nearest to reasonable sleep around 18 months.
