How well do your different sex siblings get on? (does the friendship last into adulthood?)

Hi, we have two dc's - ds 3.10 and dd 16mo. My dh comes from a family of two, him and his brother and they are very close. I come from a family of three and even though I feel close to both my brother and sister, I have a stronger bond with my sister which I put down to the fact that we're the same sex.

I'm wondering, as my two are of different sexes will they be as close as two same sex siblings? Those of you who come from a 'one of each' family, how close are you now that you're adults? I so want them to have the same relationship we have with our siblings.

My sister and I are 22 months apart and have always been really close so I always wanted 2 girls but now have DD 5 and DS2. They are really close and even although DS is only just 2, they are playing together really well and loving interacting once DD gets home from school.
My DH is the middle of 3. His brother is only 20 months older than him and his sister is almost 5 years younger. Although he played with his brother when little, he is now much closer to sister, even though she's 28 and he's 34. They have a great friendhship and bounce off each other whereas the older brother is more serious.
Basically it all depends on the individual children and even what they're like when little, doesn't mean they'll always be like that.

I think you actually find that its siblings of the same sex that find it harder to get on.

Agree it very much depends on the personalities of the individual children.

I have a brother, 18 months younger than me. We hated each other with a passion when we were growing up, constantly faught up to the age of abot 20. Then it all changed. We get on really well now.

ds & dd get on really well at the moment, always kissing each other goodnight and giving lots of cuddles etc. I guess you're right about personality. Have to admit, on my side, we were all quite distant during our teenage years but became closer in our mid-20's too.

I have a ds (9) and a dd(3)...they are each others best people.They are very different characters...but i imagine they will always have a good bond
I am one of 7
I am probably closest to one of brother's (2 up from me)and one of my sisters(next one up from me)
Saying that, if i needed help i could call on any of them and they would all come.
It's about personalities i think.

OK, ds1 (8) gets on with dd1(5), dd2 (3) and dd3(1)
DS2 (7) argues with all of them!!
DD1 and DD2 both play happily and fight like mad
DD2 picks on DD3 because she can
When ds3 arrives I suspect everyone will get on with him but DD3 will probably shove hi, around.

With my two the friendship really didn't start until they were approaching adulthood!
DS & DD are now 19 & 17 & pretty good friends, except for the occasional squabble over the TV when DS is home from uni.
I was one of four & I fought with my sister (18 months older) and one of my brothers (nobody could have fought with the other one) Now we're adults we're all good friends.
On the other hand, DH & his sister were closer as children than they are now....

As a child I got on brilliantly with my brother, but since he got married (to a woman I don't particularly like) I never see him or speak to him. Shame.

(It may have seemed a silly question to ask but I recently miscarried my fourth pg and we're not sure we'll try again so I have had guilty feelings I should for them, but obviously it's all in my head! Thx again.)

My older brother (by 18mths) used to watch me as I slept then tell mum, the baby's awake when I woke. He also carried my school bag home for me when I first started school. He let me drive his car before I had my licence too, ahh older brothers.

We live in different towns now, so don't see him often, although his lifestyle is completely different to mine, I accept it, and we are very fond of each other and have a lovely, raucous time when we manage to meet. Very fond memories of travelling in Sth America with him, my favourite holiday ever.
