So a year and a half ago dd's dad and I split up in a rather dramatic way. Won't go into detail but dd will have heard and seen things she shouldn't have. In the car last week her friend asked why her mummy and daddy do not live together. She said "I don't want to explain about that" and effectively closed down the conversation. She is 6. I am torn between thinking a) she's internalising all of this and it will store up trouble for later and b) wow, I'm so impressed, up until 6 months ago I was answering questions I didn't want to answer because I did not know how to close them down! What do your think? A or b?
