When does September born DS start school?

Hi there,

I'm not sure this is the right place to post but I'm a little confused!

My DS will be 3 this September, so if I am interpreting the primary admissions correctly he won't start school until September 2019 when he turns 5?

This just seems so far away to me I feel like I must be wrong! He's moving into the preschool room at his nursery next month and will be there for 2 years which seems so long!

He has little friends born in the July/August who he is developmentally on par with, potty trained, count to 20, spell his name etc and seems so weird they'll start school next September and he'll be waiting a whole year.

I have friends with summer born children who worry about them not being ready for school so perhaps this is just a normal worry for parents with children who will either be old or young for their year?

We were in the same position with ds as he's also a September birthday and with the ridiculously long transition period, he will have already turned 5 before he starts. We moved him to the nursery class of a school and he's been able to join in some Reception activities as appropriate. Would something like this be an option in your area?

Sorry I thought I replied but it didn't post! Thanks Zaphod that's a really good suggestion, I had a look and it seems like the nursery at the school isn't really affiliated, it has the same curriculum as our current nursery but I'll give them a call and see what they say as perhaps it's not clear from the website.

Any other suggestions for that extra year also welcome! Perhaps I need to look into some in addition to his normal preschool one day a week or something!
