What should my 3.5 - 4 month old be doing?

Hi,

my DS is 3.5 - 4 month old. Just wondering what he should be doing at this stage.

He is not my first, DS2 has an older brother who is now almost 3, but at this age I think I remember DS1 being a lot more interactive.

So what should a 3.5 - 4 month old be doing all day?

not a whole lot to be honest! I have a six month old and at that stage ( and now) she spends time on her tummy, time under an activity arch, in a swing, or in a bouncy chair. she can hold things now ( cloth books, teething rings, rattle type toys)

Drinking milk, sleeping and getting lots of cuddles

not a lot. Ds rolled at 13 weeks but that was annoyingly early. Can he hold things?

Bugger all, IME. DD1 in particular lolled under her baby gym in a stoned trippy way for months.

most do flip all at this age if mine and his buddies are anything to go by...

smiles and makes noises back at me when I 'talk'.

have some head control and smile. other than that, drink, sleep, wee and poo.

It's good to hear he should be doing not all that much.

He does smile back and he can hold things, he does try to "talk" back sometimes. He has OK head control, which we're working on.

He does lots of eating, sleeping, weeing, and pooing.

Bless you, I don't think you need to work on the head control - he'll get there when he's ready. You can't develop his muscles for him. I laughed when my friend told me how she had 'taught' her 6 month old DD to sit.

It sounds like your DS is doing all the right things - just enjoy him as he is and don't worry about what he should be doing.

my dd is same age. she has neck control. can almost roll over. does lots of smiles. wees poos. sleeps.

Have any of you started weaning at that age? Mine has started waking up in the night, not used to it cos I was a bit jammy, my ds slept through the night from 4th week, so I'm not used to feeds in the night really.
Mine is just 4 months now, he can roll, lift head up and demand attention! He likes to 'stand up' too. Not on his own! But he likes to put weight on his legs, his face looks like he has invented it all by himself he's that proud! Ha ha.
Yeah, they don't do too much, but that's a blessing?

My DS is nowhere near ready to be weaned yet, but guidance does seem this time round to be closer to 6 months - with my first I was told between 4 and six months, and started him on the mush (no BLW then that I was aware of!) at 5 months.

Each baby is different though, read your baby's cues and go from there.

I wouldn't though wean him just on the basis that he is waking up in the middle of the night....
