Worried as 6 year old needs to learn personal space

My son is quite immature compared to some of his classmates. He is very excitable and easily led. Does silly things without thinking and gets into trouble at school a bit with rough play. He hugs his friends and grabs them. He also grabs me when in public. Not very cuddly at home, more when we are out and about. I worry that he is too much full on with other children and doesnt really understand personal space. I am not sure of the best way to teach him this. I do tell him but i cant be sure he is taking it in.

Do you just want tips on how to deal with it or are you thinking there may be something causing his behaviour?

My 6 year old is the same - his cousin has complained about the hugs. Would also welcome tips.
