At what age is best to test out controlled crying and how do I go about carrying it out? I'm intested to know results and benefits but also the negatives etc, thanks.

I tried with my son when he was about 1, able to stand in for it it may had been a little earlier.
You lay them down and walk out, when they cry say for 30 seconds then you go in and lay them back down again and then keep increasing the time until they fall asleep.

My son is now 9 and sleeps fine. Honestly, looking back I would not had bothered. It broke my heart doing it and I felt awful after. Every time he fell ill, it would have to be done again so after 2 times I gave up. It did work though until he fell ill with a cold.

He ended up sharing my bed until he was 3 and went into his own big boy room and has slept ok since. So in my experience If i could go back I wouldn't had bothered.
