6 month old suddenly shaking his head a lot - should I worry?

Yesterday my DS (6.5 months) shook his head (as if to say "no") a few times. Today he has done it a lot.

Has he just learned a new skill, or should I be worried about ear infections, etc?

Can you tell I'm a first time mum?!

Many thanks
9nut

Ds does the same even now at 13mo. It's so cute!! Think it's just a new skill...

I think it's because they learn they can.

Leave it unless he seems in pain.

Grin at him when he does it cos it looks funny

New skill I think 9nut, my DD hasn't started yet but friends have (all around 6-7 months)

Thanks for putting my mind at rest everyone, will definitely grin at him (He's probably already worked out that I am a soft touch who will laugh at anything he does...doesn't bode well for those toddler years does it?!)

ds does this when he's teething (10 mo now and has 6 teeth) - took us two teeth to work it out, i gently hold his head still and chiropractor said to gently stroke his head from forehead to back, she said its nothing to worry about but could develop into habit

Thanks insywinsyspider. I hope it is teeth, that would be good.
