Trying to eat poo

My almost two year old always tries to put his hand in his nappy if he can at the moment and he's tried to or eaten poo on a few occasions. Is this normal and how can I discourage the constant fishing in his nappy and eating of poo?

He also tries to stick his hand in it when you are changing his nappy. 😳
