Hi everyone. I'm looking for some advice on my 20 month old son. He isn't talking yet. He says momma alot but I don't think he is actually meaning me. He says duck sometimes and what sounds like tickle. He seems to understand things but he is not very cooperative. He won't give you things, if I ask him to help mummy put away his toys he just runs away. He likes playing with blocks, he just throws them over and over again. Pretty much all he likes to do is run from room to room laughing. He loves to climb on things but I'm just concerned that he does not really like doing things. He isn't very responsive to me and he seems to be more responsive to his dad. I've just tried playing a game of hide the blocks with him and he just doesn't want to sit and do things like that. I tried rolling a ball to him and he liked that for about 2 minutes then ran away. I'm trying to help him with his language by looking at flash cards, reading books etc but again all he wants to do is run. I only have one child and I don't have any family other than my husband to ask for advice but is all this normal?

I would suggest seeing your health visitor and speaking to them about your concerns.

Also, If you google "Asq 18months" then a questionnaire should come up about all the things your ds should be doing by now. My 23month old consistently failed ALL parts of the asq which made me self refer via my gp to a paediatrician who has been great at getting my son the help he needs.

But you may find that your son can do most/all of the things in the questionnaire and is just hyperSmile
