dd bolts badly but I dont know to what extent can be expected to be normal?

the moment she gets an oppourtunity she is gone and goes straight for an exit and runs so bloody fast i struggle to catch her. She showed yesterday she was willing to go home with complete strangers.

What is the normal level of bolting?

I don't think there's a 'normal' here - some kids never bolt and others are as you describe. Have you tried reins?

Being willing to go home with a complete stranger is definitely normal at this age.

My daughter is also 30 months and will bolt at any opportunity. It's exhausting. We have to use the buggy and reigns and hand holds and carrying her. It's a constant anxiety buy is manageable with the above in place. She HAS got better as she went from 2 to 2.5. I'm hoping that by the time she's 3, she'll be even better. She adores running - it's one of her real passions. So we try to encorporate a run into most of the chores. Eg: when we go to the supermarket, I take someone along with us - one to push the trolley and one to walk fast after her while she runs. The more she's allowed to, the less she wants to.
Or we go to enclosed parks and let her go!
I feel for you. She's not interested in scooter or balance bike. Just running!
