What time do most 9 year olds go to sleep?

DS will be 10 in September. He's normally in bed by 8. We read a story together until 8.30. He often then struggles to get to sleep before 9.30 and is tired during the day. He wakes naturally at 6.30-7.

We have no TVs / phones in bedrooms. He nearly always has a wind down time before bed. I wouldn't be worried about his sleep routine if he wasn't complaining that he can't get to sleep, and of being tired.

What time do most kids of this age go to sleep?

I have 9 year olds. They go for a shower around 8:00-8:30, lights out by 9pm. Up at 6:30pm.

If they can't sleep they are sent back up to quietly read a book in bed.

My nearly 9yo will read from about 7.00 (depending on the day) until 8.00, then lights out but it takes her about an hour to drift off usually. Always has, she needs thinking and winding down time. She often listens to a story CD.

She wakes up anywhere between 6.00 and 7.00, depending how tired she is, but is rarely woken by her alarm (at 7.00). If she is, I know she needs a bit more help winding down to sleep.

If I put her to bed later, she doesn't seem to go to sleep faster, so that's why her bedtime is quite early.

8 year old DSS (year 3) goes to bed at 9pm when he's with us. We try for 8.30pm on a school night but generally we still end up with lights off at 9. He gets up at about 7am.

9 yr old ds is 8.30 weekdays and 9.30 weekends it often slips later and he wakes naturally at 7 weekdays and maybe a little later at the weekend.'
However he is currently struggling to get to sleep some nights I think he's quite sensitive to the lighter evenings

I try to get mine in bed for 8.15, read with her til 8.30, then hope she's asleep by 8.45ish. Often doesn't work though.

About 8:30-9pm

My DD is in bed by 8pm, reads for 20mins or do then puts out her light. Often sleeps until 7.30am next day - she seems to need 11 hours regularly still.

My nearly 10yr old is in bed reading from 7.30/8, lights out between 8.30/9- wakes 5.30/6. Has always been an incredibly early riser, later bedtimes make no difference

DD1 turning 9 in 3 weeks. She is in bed ~7.45, story read to her then she reads until lights out around 8.15. She goes to sleep 8.30 or so ( I think!). Wakes up naturally 6.30 to 7.00.

Think she's ready for slightly later routine but will do it gradually and see what happens,

Thanks for all the replies. It turns out we are reassuringly 'normal'!
