School?

I have an extremely bright two year old who won't be going to school until he's five. His birthday is during the first week of September.

Is it worth enquiring about the possibility of him starting a year early? Several of his friends have August birthdays, so it wouldn't be too strange for him. He's already much further ahead than the children we know who will be starting school the year before him and I'm concerned that he's going to get bored.

Is being the oldest in the year always a big advantage that's worth waiting for?

My DD is an August baby and I'd say being a September baby is a big advantage, they've lived a whole year longer. My DD is now in Y5 and I think it's only now beginning to even out.

My DS is bright too and I thought I would struggle with him not going to school but it was fine. I didn't teach him to read or write as I thought that was best left to the teachers. What I did do at the same age as your DD was to take him to a French class for toddlers and a Music Claas too. Then we did things like baking, good for taking about weights, and playgroups and the odd other activity like going for a walk and talking about door numbers. Pinterest is good for ideas on keeping 2 year olds entertained.

A nursery class attached to a school would suit him well as they get the feel of going to school without the pressure, also they'd have access to resources if they felt he was ready to move up a gear in his learning. Some schools have foundation stage units where nursery and reception mix which means that older nursery children can work alongside their reception peers in areas whilst they're ready.
Having said all that, I'd highly recommend letting him be little and play for as long as possible.... There will be enough pressure once he starts his education, don't be in a hurry to put this on him no matter how bright he may seem at 2.
