Baby acting odd since second vaccines

My LO has been funny since his last vaccines a week ago.

Hes unhappy all day, he does a mix of crying and whining for the full day. He keeps curling into a ball and at times crying and kicking his legs.
He won't let me put him down, he cries. Sometimes he will calm after I've put him down and played with him but if I stop playing with him or move him he cries.

I'm a little worried because last time he was like this we had to change him to soy formula, after that he calmed down. He's gone off his food, he'll eat then stop and cry.
He's not being sick at all or spitting up but he seems in pain again

Is he pooping ok? My DD had this reaction the the Rotavirus vaccine both times but with explosive diarrhoea and wind. It passed after about 10 days if I remember right.
But if you are concerned just give your GP a ring.

He's poops been a bit odd. He usually only poops once a day, some times two, he has been skipping a day and then pooping.
Maybe that's why.

Sounds like he may have tummy ache from the rotavirus vaccine. Some babies react to it but it will pass.

FWIW the vaccine wasnt available when DS was a baby and he was so ill with it we were in and out of hospital for months.

You need to get him to the docs/out of hours asap. If he hadn't just had his vaccines, you wouldn't even be questioning this. Just because it's obviously vaccine related, doesn't make it ok to leave him.

It does sound like a digestive issue given the ball curling etc. You should take him back to the doctor, OP, and see what they say.

NB @star, it's not 'obviously vaccine related'. It might be, but just because two things happen together doesn't mean it's causal!

I'm going to be taking him in next week.

He's currently having odd pumps, he's pumping a lot more than normal today. Still very grumpy, won't be put down and only wants me, he won't even smile at his dad right now but I'm getting plenty of giggles and laughs.

Take him to doctor if you're worried. It's rare but rotavirus vaccine can increase risk of Intussusception. If you get and blood or red jelly in his poo you should go to A&E.

My dd had a bad reaction to each of her infant vaccines which brought on reflux. Sounds like your ds might be similar. I didn't make the connection until well after her infant vaccines were done. Every time we got the reflux under control, it was time for another vaccine, and it all kicked off again. I told the GP who wasn't interested, but that was 12 years ago... I would like to think that a GP might be more receptive these days....

So two weeks later and he's still crying.

He's been to the doctors and they said he's fine, surely two weeks later and still screaming in pain isn't right?

I'm seriously considering either rebooking his next set or skipping them all together.

I'm thinking it's to do with the rotavirus vaccine, he's had DTaP/IPV/Hib and Rota last time. Next he's having DTap/IPV/Hib, Pcv and menb.

Maybe he'll be ok with them?

In the meantime how can I help him? Last time it only stopped after a change to soy formula. Maybe if I change him back to normal?

He's on soy formula. I've had lots of issues with him crying none stop in the past and him projectile vomiting, the change to soy stopped all that until this last vacciene.

The doctors won't help at all, they say he has reflux and the vacciene triggered it again and sent us away with nothing.

It's 2am and I've slept two hours so far because the second he goes down he screams.
I can't cope with it anymore, all he does is scream. I can't bond with him because of it, it's causing me and DH to argue. I can't cook/eat/shower or do anything really, no one will watch him and my DH will just hand him back.

I think you should call your health visitor and explain what's been happening and that you are finding things difficult. I would also get him weighed as he has been ill for a couple of weeks to see what his weight is doing.

In terms of soy formula it's not recommended for babies anymore for lots of reasons but one is that babies that have allergies to cows milk, will often be allergic to soy, as the proteins are similar. Allergies, especially delayed allergies can take a few weeks to show so that may be what's happening. If he is allergic to cows milk, there are prescription formulas available and I think your HV will be the best to help you with that if the gp won't.

And I'm sorry things are rough right now. My first has allergies and the crying at night was very hard. It made bonding very difficult

I've contacted allergy UK, he just doesn't stop crying. I've had 3 hours sleep and the rest of the night he screamed.

May I should put him up for adoption, maybe they'd get him help.

Are there any children's centre baby groups that have a baby weigh you could go to - then collar that HV and pin them in the corner til they help you

This must be awful - keep returning to the/a GP - squeaky gates get oil/quiet ones don't

Please mention the knock on effect this is having on bonding/your relationship with DH - this is not something to be ashamed of but a natural outcome of sleep deprivation and feeling you can't comfort your baby

Is he drinking water still? If not he could be getting dehydrated and that's something the HV/GP should be addressing

When I took him in they said he's not getting dehydrated, I'm aware that if his soft spot 'goes in a bit' (not to sure what the word is ) he's dehydrated and if that happens I get him to eat.
I've literally have no help, local pharmacy don't care and all that's near by is my doctors which doesn't have a baby group.

How did he end up on soy formula? Presumably via the doctor? Go back to that doctor and explain the issues. As pp said, CMPA and soy allergy often occur together.

They should at least give you gaviscon for the reflux.

I am so sorry you are going through this. You sound at the end of your rope, and I would be feeling the same way if I were you.

Doctors (and most people in general) don't want to hear anything against any vaccine, but I don't think this attitude to legitimate worries and concerns is helpful in any way.

I put him on soy I bought it from the shop because he was screaming 8 hours a day and none helped

Also he's been on gaviscon and every other reflux treatment with no improvement, the only thing that helped was the change to soy formula

Kitty I can hear the desperation in your posts, I'm so sorry you're feeling like this. I'm having similar problems with my 5mo and I'm finding it really hard aswell! I wish I could help but I'm still searching for the answer.

He sounds like he may have developed an intolerance to cows milk. Mine was the same and he was an utter nightmare. Google CMPA symptoms and see if they look familiar. Try not to give babies soy. I did for a while, but it can be bad for boys. It's also very sweet so can cause issues when trying to wean.
Go back to your dr and say that the gaviscon doesn't work. They will either put him on another type of reflux stuff or refer him.
