Bear with me, because I know it's early to expect a baby to stand!

My daughter has never really been keen on standing but would do so occasionally if encouraged, but over the past few couple of months if I try to put her on her feet she just holds her legs directly out in front of her, or if I do manage to get her feet on the floor her legs just buckle. Is this normal? I'm paranoid that she's hypermobile, she does seem very bendy and it runs (though mildly) in the family.

She's 8 months, sat at 4.5months and has been trying to crawl (lunging from sitting onto hands and knees, or more often with one foot on the floor and the other tucked underneath her) since she was just shy of 6 months. She isn't keen on tummy time so hasn't learnt to commando crawl or anything, but is pushing off with her toes and pushing herself backwards with her arms.

I've freaked myself out today worrying that there's something wrong, but does this all sound normal enough? (Feel free to hand me a grip...)

How big is your dd? My mum told me heavier babies take longer to support themselves and it's normal. I don't know if there's any physiology behind it or it's just an old wives tale.

Dnephew is 98th centile he walked around 15 months. Dd is 9th centile & started to stand up on our laps from around 4 months and before she could sit up. She hated tummy time too and we all thought she would skip the crawling phase. She could definitely support her weight from 5 months but couldn't balance. She would try to walk when we were holding her up kinda like a catwalk instead of a normal gait then all of a sudden at 7 months she figured out how to crawl and lost interest in walking for two months then. She started walking properly at 9 months but only on the bed or grass lol we think she was scared of falling, poor thing we were trying to help her to understand that the mattress was less stable and harder to balance but as soon as we put her on the floor she would refuse to stand up lol.

She's on the 25th centile, haven't had her weighed in ages but I'm guessing she's getting on for 17/18lbs. She's not big by any means!

It all sounds normal and perfectly fine to me, but go and see your HV if you're worried.

I agree with nuff said it's normal but no harm in speaking to the professionals. Humans are amazing and alot of the things we can do are actually really complex. Standing involves control, balance, strength and confidence combining, it takes time to get it right.

Ds wasn't even crawling at that age. He got going with crawling the day he turned 9 months, and was soon pulling himself up after that. By all means, set your mind at rest by speaking to the hv etc, but they di all do things at their own rate.

Ds is nearly a year and a half old now and he's currently just going from walking to running. It's terrifying (but also fun)!
