My 11yr old son with adhd and asd

My 11 yr old son has been diagnosed from the age of 7 with adhd and asd which his school has been informed continually of the progress of these diagnosis.Our current position with school is I have to collect him every break and lunch time then return him each day my concern is he is becoming socially excluded from his peer group he is due to go to secondary school in sept every time I try to talk to the HT to review this I just get it is not safe for him or others for him to be in school at these times and he has to earn this back?
On top of this if sean is emotional or distressed I am called to remove him weekly I am lost with what to do next? I have spoken with the SEN team and they are trying to organise a meeting but everytime I touch base there is no progress has anyone and advice please thanks in advance

Oh Doll that sounds awful for both of you. I don't have any experience so can't really help. I would suggest that you ask MNHQ to move this to the SEN board, you may get some replies

Having had to read up on the department of education's guide to exclusions I'm pretty sure if they are asking you to take him every lunch time that counts as a half days exclusion. Technically a child can only have 45 days exclusion before the school should go down the root of permanent exclusion. So 90 half days. I'm not sure it's completely clean cut like that but if they are making him go home, rather than you choosing to give him lunch at home they should be officially doing it. You can download the guide on the their website. Essentially they should be doing what they can to manage him in school. They may well have already tried to do that but I think discussing re introduction is perfectly acceptable. Is his socialising in lesson time improving? Does he have things like small social group sessions/ turn taking activities etc..

When they call you to collect him when he is distressed, are you given official exclusion paperwork to go with the exclusion? If not that is an illegal exclusion. Asking you to collect every lunch and break also sound very questionable.

Does he have a statement or EHCP? Is the SEN team in the LA? I would make sure you fire off some emails to as many senior members of LA staff as possible to request an urgent meeting to discuss the current arrangements in primary and his transition to secondary.

This is disability discrimination. If he needs adult supervision to make sure everyone is safe, the school has a duty to provide it. They have to fund the first £6,000 of any ta support he needs. That money is already in their budgets.

if they need to spend more than that, they need to apply for high needs funding or an EHC Plan.

It is not acceptable to continually exclude him from school or to say that he has to make his disability disappear in order to be allowed around the other pupils.

I agree about requesting a meeting. Make sure all professionals involved with him are invited. The purpose of the meeting is to work out what support he needs in order to attend school full time. Do not be fobbed off by arguments about lack of resources.

Does this not depend where you are though? England and Scotland are different

You're right there are some differences depending on where you are. The OP did say her child was starting secondary school in September so I assumed England. It could be Ireland, Northern Ireland or Wales, I suppose.
