Should you allow your young child to get a tattoo?

What age is "young" and are we talking temporary or henna tattoos or actual needle tattoos?

Foreverhopeful22 · 20/04/2017 14:18

Age ? Permanent?

namechange20050 · 20/04/2017 14:19

Its illegal until they are 18.

GeillisTheWitch · 20/04/2017 14:21

I know someone who allowed their 15 year old to get a tattoo because they (the parent) were dating a tattoo artist who was willing to do it. I judged, hard.

Happydappy99 · 20/04/2017 14:24

No. I co-own a tattoo studio alongside my daughter x husband and the age limit is there for a reason.

metalmum15 · 20/04/2017 14:24

Young? Young to me is somewhere under about 14. So no.

MiltopMighty · 20/04/2017 14:26

Never unless they are 18 years old.

My oldest daughter got a tattoo when she was sixteen, both she and the tattooist received a stern telling off. I told my daughter and left the tattooist in the hands of professionals once I reported him.

I think they should do it on postnatal wards. Maybe the bounty woman could diversify.

Perpetualstateofchaos · 20/04/2017 14:32

I got my 1st tattoo just after my 17th birthday. My dm went berserk and now I'm a mum myself I can see why she did. Both my ds's have said about getting them but I've always told them they can at 18. If a tattooist is willing to tattoo a child I have to wonder what other legislation and health and safety practices they are ignoring.

kirstxx · 20/04/2017 14:37

Friend had her first at 17 and her DM went with her. She was in her 'rebellious teen' phase and her DM knew she would have it done regardless. That way DM was able to give consent and check the place out. Also could make sure my friend was sticking to the timeless and classy (imo) tattoo and placement!

Depends on how 'mature' they are for their age I suppose.. Not suggesting it's the norm

pinkyredrose · 20/04/2017 15:51

kirstxx it's an urban myth that a parent can consent to an under 18yr old getting tattooed. It's illegal under under 18, no exceptions.
