4 week old crying and not sleeping

Just looking for a bit of advice really.

My DD is 4 weeks and 3 days old. For the past 24 hours she's been terribly unsettled.

Since 6 this morning she's probably had 5-6 hours sleep, but has been really restless. She's fed nearly every hour and a half. Absolutely the most she's eaten in one day since birth. She's mix fed with bottles responsively, ebm in a bottle mostly (around 80% of her feeds) and the rest formula.

Is this the growth spurts the midwives talk about?

From birth she's not been the most settled, she needs lots of cuddles and we didn't have the best start with feeding but she's happy and well fed now.

I haven't managed to get her to sleep anywhere other than on my chest. I'm wondered about trapped wind/colic etc, but don't really know what to look for. She's trumpy but does pass wind.

Any ideas?

How is she today cocker?

She slept better last night (obviously still up every 2-3 hours) but she settled in between feeds. She was good today but about 5.30 it's all started again, she's really hungry, and crying out quite inconsolably. She's fed every hour since 5.

Will she settle with you on the sofa? If you need a break, have you got some who could take her out for a walk or drive for half an hour?

I've just managed to get her to settle now. It's definitely trapped wind as she's straining and doing little trumps.

I don't remember if Infacol is suitable for four week olds - but it was a real game changer for our DD. She had a drop before every 'meal' from being very little until she was about four months old. After that she found burping on her own terms a bit easier and was much easier to settle.

If she does get uncomfortable again with wind, have a look on YouTube at the Tiger in the Tree hold. It's great at soothing them

Also going to suggest Infacol.

Maybe speak to the HV. Definitely no tongue tie?

You could also look into cranial osteopathy which might help.

She's on infacol, which I thought was helping but now I'm not sure.

She's up and all unsettled again so I'm trying the tiger in the tree hold.

Unfortunately HV is no real help. She's very unsupportive and has upset me a lot in the past so I don't feel I can go to her. Not ideal really.

I'm sorry to hear that, do you have a community midwife you could go back to? We need our health professionals at this time.

Agree with @ohforfoxsake, it's definitely worth getting her checked for tongue tie, even if she's been checked before.

My son was like that for a couple months at that age. It was colic so we used infacol which is suitable from birth but that caused constipation. He was on SMA easy digest formula and we changed it to cow and gate and he was fine after about a weeks transition :)

Massage helps my DS loads for trapped wind.. is a real trumper!! We went on a short massage course/group which was good. I'm sure you can find techniques online.. but basically massage stomach in clockwise direction, google the I love you massage.
