When did you give your toddler a pillow? And where did you get it?

My ds is 16 months and grandparents always say he should have a pillow. I use a soft fleece blanket at the moment because the children's pillows that I have seen in the shops look way to high. He ends up sleeping accross the bed anyway, or upside down so I am not sure there is much point.

What did people do?

2 years, John Lewis

dd1 was about 16 months too and she loves her pillow now at 5
dd2 has had a pillow from when she went into a bed a few weeks ago and hides it under her bed - refuses to have it on the bed at all!

why do grandparents say he should have a pillow?

piglit · 05/03/2007 13:07

DS1 2.3 still doesn't have one. Don't really see the point.

ivelostmyboobsboohoo · 05/03/2007 13:10

at about 18 mths and i got it from mothercare. all of mine have slept better with a pillow no idea why. think it makes dd feel grown up!

knittingfog · 05/03/2007 13:12

ds1 had his from 12 months and we got it from IKEA. It was really quite flat but it seemed to dramatically improve his sleep pattern overnight. I'm not saying I think that will be the same for everyone, it's just that he was more comfortable with it than without due to his sleeping position.

Kelly1978 · 05/03/2007 13:12

nearly two, he has a pretty flat one I dug out of the cupboard, I think it was ikea. It's a normal sized one. He just wants to be all grown up, and loves his pillow. dt1 still doesn't want one. It annoys him.
The older two, I think dd was 2, and ds was a lot older, he really didn't like them until he was about 3 or 4.

fridayschild · 05/03/2007 13:12

DS1 got one when he was 3.5 because he had a cold and it was easier for him to sleep with a pillow

so DS2 got one at that stage too - he was 2

D1 likes his, DS2 just has it in the bed and doesn't sleep on it

otherwise they would still be without one

we got cot bed pillows from the white company

IntergalacticWalrus · 05/03/2007 13:15

DS1 was 2, and we got it from Ikea.

It's on his bed, but is still unused, as he laways has his head just undearneath the pillow.

annapea · 05/03/2007 13:20

We got ours from mothercare too (when DS was 2 and a bit), but only because he moved from cot to bed. not sure it's necessary and if your DS is sleeping on his tummy or back it's probably better for his spine not to have one.

dejags · 05/03/2007 13:22

When they went from a cot to a bed.

DS1 = 2yrs
DS2 = 18months

Pillows were from off our bed IIRC.

swifterella · 05/03/2007 13:23

14 mnths, mothercare, constantly has a cold so the elevation seems to help

BettySpaghetti · 05/03/2007 13:23

DS is 2.9 and doesn't use one. He had one for a few nights when he was full of cold and phlegm a while ago but insisted on giving it back to me afterwards as he didn't want it.

KathyMCMLXXII · 05/03/2007 13:24

And you're not worried they're going to suffocate?
(OK, I know....but irrational fears come with the territory of parenthood.)

IdrisTheDragon · 05/03/2007 13:24

DS - when he went into a bed so about 2.

DD - about a month or so ago (so about 16 months). Seems to have helped with her sleeping .
