why does my 14 mth old daughter grind herself on the floor on all fours?!

my 14 month old daughter has recently started to get on all fours, sometimes with something underneath where her nappy is, and then grind back and forth. I find it disturbing, especially as she has increased both the frquency of this behaviour and the length of time spent doing it. my background of sexual abuse has led me to promise never to let any unusual behaviour go unchecked...as mine was... and so here i am, maybe slightly paranoid, and asking if anyone knows why she may be doing this. i would ask my health visitor, but, with no offence meant, i don't find her very approachable, especially on such a sensitive subject. i'm going to ask the NSPCC now that i'm feeling brave enough to break the embarressed silence.does anyone else worry like this? does anyone want me to post what the NSPCC tell me?Thanks for reading, hope this finds you well and happy! This is normal. It's not sexual, it's just something that feels nice to her, and it's very, very normal. Nothing to be embarrassed about or disturbed by, and certainly nothing to talk to the NSPCC about.

abounder it is normal for a child when they find they get a funny feeling from their bits to test it out. MY Ds is 3 and loves nothing better than to fiddle with himself. DD1 is 14mths and when nappy is off her fingers go straight to her down below bit. I know what you mean as I was abused and do become overly paranoid, however it is also a normal developmental stage so please try not to fret.

Have no real idea why this is happening. However (and excuse the comparisson!), this is something that I have seen animals do when they are uncomfortable or itch. Could be your dd has an infection or something like that (maybe even worms??) and needs to see a Dr. Could you take her to see her GP?

Think you are being slightly paranoid but we all are with our children and that's what helps us keep them safe. If you have any doubts at all about your dd's well-being, then act on them as you would never forgive yourself if you did not.

Completely and utterly normal and curious behaviour.
