21 month old hating bath time

DD1 has, in the last month, really started hating bath time. She used to really enjoy it - we sang songs & played with her toys and she didn't really want to come out.

Late Nov DD2 arrived as did DD1's molars. Her nappy was horrendous and I'm sorry to say that the skin on her bottom did bleed....anyway all cleared up now but still she hates bath time.

I've tried singing, playing, even washing dolly but nothing works. She bursts into tears and just keeps saying "Out" and pointing at her towel.

Anyone have any ideas? And she won't let DH do bathtime either....

My daughters bottom bled a bit when she was teething. Her nappie rashes were awful. I found sudocrem mixed with vaseline worked really well. As for the bath time have you tried that new play stuff called 'bubble baff' There is an advert on tv you pour it in and it turns the bath water to some kind of jellyfied substance, comes in various colours. Then when finished you pour something else in it (which they provide) and it turnes it back to water (still coloured) I will look it up and get back to you but it may take her mind off getting into a pink jelly bath!! May be a bit messy for the parents though.......

Just looked it up on google. Its called 'Gellibaff' turns it into 'goo'

Thanks for responding....I tried with bubble bath, before buying the stuff you suggested, and it didn't work.....she hated it.
She now is really refusing to get into the bath & just sobs.....anyone have any ideas or recommendations of books where baths are featured??

oh no! so sorry that didnt work. Has it made her worse? Really sorry.!
Maybe try shower? Although you propably dont want to listen to my suggestions again!

Would it help if you share the bath with her?

Any chance that she has a pain somewhere else. Could she have a sore vagina(for want of a less clinical word that doesn't sounbd rude or icky)

Just thought that maybe the water made it more sore and if the bubbles made her hate it more then that would make sense as bubbles would be sorer than just water

Dionnelorraine - you didn't make it worse at all.....I thought it might help and make it fun, but no....I've tried using the handheld shower to get the shampoo out quickly and I think that made it much worse....

TrinityRhino - I wasn't sure about that...when her nappy rash was really bad in Dec, yes it did hurt her but then it got better and she was happier....suddenly in the last 2 weeks she's got more afraid and her phobia is much worse....

There is a book ds loves called 'Big Red bath'by Julia Jarman & Adrian Reynolds
Also 'Maisy's Bathtime'-Lucy cousins.

How about trying a song/story tape on
Buying some new bath toys etc

There are also bubble machines you can get that stick on the side of the bath....might tempt her in?

My ds went through the not liking bath phase a few weeks back. He is 22mths and went from loving baths and showers to having the biggest paddy almost over night. We tried putting him in the shower with us and making him have a shower or just putting him in the bath with both of us washing him so that it was a quick bath. This lasted about 2 weeks and then again almost overnight he was back to loving them again. He has about a thousand toys in with him that are all 'mucky' and need a wash, this is what we tempt him in with. We also bought the winnie the pooh bubbles that turn from orange to blue when they hit the water. I am sure we will go backwards again, but for now he is happy

Thank you everyone for your advice......dh managed to coax her in by blowing bubbles. This is the first time in ages that she's allowed dh to give her a bath......so the distraction seems to have worked - for now!

Ds is obsessed with the crayons and paints that can be used in the bath. This has kept him amused every night for months now!
