Might be a silly question but im curious - Do we give our kids confidence or do they naturally have it from birth????

DS is a reasonably outgoing personality who is confident with people and in new situations, nursery, school etc will talk to adults he's just met etc, however he lacks confidence in his own ability, especially physically. "I can't do it" - a regular statement.

DD, OTOH, is much shyer socially but has more confidence in her own ability and will give things a go far more readily. She insists that she can write - despite being 2 and never having been taught. Because DS can, so, in her mind, she must be able to. There are lots of other things though that she will have a go at, that DS wouldn't at this age.
