Does anyone have tips on how to get ds to poo on potty ?

Basically my ds is 2.5 for the past 5/6 months he has been weeing on the potty he stands up as well to do that but he will not poo at all, if he has pants on he asks me for a nappy then he will go and hide in the pantry to do it. I asked my hv who suggested a sticker chart which we have done but its only been a few days since we started that the other problem is iv just had a baby dd who is 5 weeks old so that adds to the problems. Any help advice would be gratefull.

I am in exactly the same position laughalot. My ds2 comes to me and asks for a nappy on because he needs a poo, does it within seconds then asks for nappy off. Only time he has a nappy on apart from bed time. No form of encouragement has worked so far. I tell him each day how he is a big boy now and big boys do poos in the potty/toilet but don't want to force it or make too big a thing incase he thinks what he is doing is wrong and becomes constipated.

I had the exact same problem with ds1 who one day just did a poo when doing a wee and we never had a problem after that day. I'm just not making too big a deal of it in the hope the same thing will happen.

One thing I did hear of though was the suggestion to try and have child sitting on potty doing poo with nappy on then once they are used to doing that then one day cut a whole in the back of the nappy! Apparently it works but I can't get my ds to sit on potty even with nappy on.

I will keep an eye on this thread though to see if anyone suggests anything else which may work.

A friend had this problem and I told her to tell her DS she had run out of nappies and couldnt get anymore..it worked!

My ds had this problem too, I read somewhere that boys find it a lot more difficult than girls to 'just let go' as it feels like they are loosing a bit of themselves! Not sure if this is the reason but TBH he will get over it and one day just do one and then from then on he will be fine about it. My DS would always poo first thing in the morning when he still had his night nappy on, either that or simply hold it!!!

I would say keep offering him the potty, maybe try what someone else suggested and tell him the nappies have run out, but if that distresses him 'find' one! Don'tmake too big an issue out of it because that might just prolong the process, especially as you have a baby too, anything that gets your attention will be something he might keep doing!

Praise every effort he makes sitting on the potty or loo too!

I agree with the 'no more nappies' approach, we had a couple of poos in his pants but him made him realise that just wasn't nice so started using the potty.
