Grumpy baby!

I know this is probably normal but as a new mum I find it quite disheartening. My DD is 7 months and is largely sociable and friendly. On the days we spend together she is whiny and hard to please however. At nursery or when I take her out somewhere she really cheers up and smiles and giggles at everyone. Yet with me she will hardly give me eye contact at times - I get the occasional half smile if I'm lucky!

She wasn't always like this but I really seem to be out of favour with her at the moment and I am quite upset! It's not like I don't give her lots of love and attention - cos I do - loads!

Anyone else experience this?

Unfortunately, you are part of the furniture - always there and therefore boring! DD does it to me too and it SUCKS bigtime. But, whenever DD is poorly, it's me she wants and I'm sure your DD is the same

Don't beat yourself up - she loves you more than anyone and is just taking you for granted as she knows you will always be there for her. My Mum has told me it's great preparation for when she's a teenager

I can totally relate to what you're saying, but with me at the moment it's slightly different - Dd (also 7mnth) is smiley AND shouty/screamy all the time, her mood changes like spring weather. This morning we went to a baby gym class and she was so so noisy noone could hear the teacher, it was so embarrassing . I try to be like the Cadbury's bunny using gentle tones but by the end of the day it's a strain! I think we may have to not take it personally... Hard not to though!

I agree - I DO take it personally though at some level I know I shouldn't! Everyone told me being a mum was difficult - now I know!

It is so easy for people to tell you not to take it personally, but you will - you're human! Just remember, in a few years time you and I will be telling other Mum's not to take it personally. Have a (((hug)))!

I think it's a phase they go through around this age. Has she learnt to crawl yet? I think being stuck at home with the desire to move but the frustration at not being able to drives them potty. Once they master this they seem to be happier at home again. Just my observations of similar aged babies. We make an effort to do something every day even if it is just a trip to the swings, or the garden centre to look at Pets Corner! The difference in DS when he is then back home is quite incredible, but if we stay put all day we're both going mad by tea-time so I just don't do it. It's not you at all, just the stage she's at, so please don't think that. Just throw some spontaniety in to the usual day and get out the house.
