Anyone else with a hyper-sensitive 2yo?

Hi I'm really new to MN but wonder if anyone out there can help. My 2.4yo DD is completely hyper-sensitive. She was playing a game today with her 'best friend' of the same age but because her friend was trying to take the lead (in a nice way) and hand her things and the play wasn't going EXACTLY as my DD wanted it to she completely flipped and started screaming. She was inconsolable for about half an hour! I tried timeout but I just couldn't peel her off me. She eventually calmed down when she rooted out her favourite blanket. I think it is purely her over-sensitivity that is the problem and I really don't know how to handle it. Please help!! I'm worried she might start alienating her friends...

Sounds like a normal 2 year old to me. Happens daily in my house as I have a 2 year old and 3 year old twins. Other mums should have the greatest empathy so don't worry.

notmal 2yr old behavior.

dd3 seems very sensitive with her hearing and even covers her own eyes when she screams occasionally. however she may just like thwe muffled sound.

Thanks for the reassurance . It didn't help when the Mum of my DD's friend started harping on about how her DD 'is never that bad' and she doesn't know how I cope with her (as it is a regular occurrence)! Grrrr! My DH said that I should have just laughed and said 'It must be wonderful to have the perfect child'

i think it's normal. my ds when that age couldbe like that too. he is now 4, can now argue back with his friends - they just seem to compete with each other to see who can be first/have the biggest toy etc etc.

I dont think it alienates friends as most of children this age are the same. One minute upset and not wanting to play with someone, the next really happy to play with that person.
