daytime sleep

ds2 2 years old has recently been trying to do without a daytime sleep usually i put him in the car if he seems tired and this works today dp has taken my car any tips ?buggy dosnt ususally work or shld I just let it go

2 is early to give it up, although some do at that age I know. Try giving him a sleep every few days instead? It is a difficult time to go through when they do this as they get really foul in the afternoons after a few days with no afternoon sleep. If he'll go down with a fight and will still go down at normal bedtime I'd carry on with it. If it is affecting his bedtime I'd drop it and just let him sleep when he needs it. Just my opinion as have yet to go through this with dd.....

my dd gave them up by her self she would just not sleep some times if we out in the car she might have 5 mins but only if had a really busy morning i find if she really tired 10 or 15 mins of quiet time and a snack normally brings her back to life

god I'd be lost if my 2.5 DS1 didn't have his hour and a half after lunch. I'm not exactly scot free when he does as have 6 month old DS2 but at least I can sit down! It just so happens that we are usually out doing stuff in the morning and have lunch out so he falls asleep on the way home and I trasfer him to bed. So much so that when we are not out in the monring (like a weekend day when DH is home for eg) I take him out for a spin in the car to get him off (completely against all my parenting principles, but it's amazing how they slide when you actually have to do it!! he falls asleep, gets put into bed, peace for at least an hour. If he does not get this sleep I am quite prepared to leave him in a supermarket by 5pm. he still goes to bed at 6.30pm even if he sleeps till 3pm, and I am a true believer in "sleep breeds sleep" it is certainly the case with him. DS2 though is another ball game altogether......

So, to cut through the guff, yes I would persevere personally...

thanks for your posts sounds like the car is really the best option if he wont sleep wont let dp take it again but very misrible all afternoon and feel asleep on the floor in lounge just b4 7 x

my DD1 went through a phase like this at about 15 months... i got one of those giant bean bags and put on her favourite (barney DVD, or a baby einstein after lunch. quite often she would fall asleep if she lay quietly long enough, even if she didn't, she had definitely had a good rest and wasn't so tired later in the afternoon.

i had to do something as at 19 months DD2 was born so had to find a solution - couldn't be taking her out in the car/buggy as i had been doing.

DD 2.2 has not had a lunchtime sleep since a week, I was so fed up with the fight to get her to sleep and when she would eventually fall sleep, it would muck up her evening routine and we would have another fight on our hands in the evening. Although it's been difficult for me to give up that hour and half of sanity at lunchtime, she's been in bed by 7.30pm every night without a problem and sleeps through! Which is worth quite a bit as well. She's nodded off in the buggy and car here and there, but that's been OK.

My ds always had his lunchtime nap in the car after he had moved out of his cot. If he didn't sleep in the car by the time we got home, I'd snuggle with him in my bed with the curtains almost closed and put a dvd on. He almost always fell asleep after a while.

I drive till he IS asleep Tracy - means a few more miles on the clock but worth it!!

Most days I would keep on driving till he did sleep - but some days the weather was so wild that I didn't fancy driving the country roads in it. And sometimes I was just too tired from driving all morning.
