Is this just a phase?

DD 2yrs has been unwell this week with a high temp. Then by chance she saw a consultant from ENT about her constant dribbling. He said she was totally congested and had glue ear.

Since the appt yesterday she has been crying every afternoon. We cant get her to say why she is crying. We cant seem to console her at all.

I presume she has had the glue ear for a while so I wondered why she was crying now,

Any ideas?

If its infected it may be causing pain. DS3 has been very miserable before his eardrums burst (rthen much happier). DS2 on the other hand didn;t even seem to notice. Have you tried calpol (or even better perhaps as its anti inflammatory)- nurofen

did the consultant do any checks which may have made the pain worse?

Yes she has been taking nurofen today and will do for the next couple of days. Advised by the consultant.

She is quite happy during the morning. Though fairly miserable when she wakes (but that's quite normal for her).

The consultant looked up her nose, in her mouth and ears. She didnt like it at all. He was very quick. We didnt think he hurt her and appeared to be very gentle.

How weird, I would say she is maybe looking for sympathy then but it is strange that it happens afternoons only.

Maye someone will be along with something a little more helpful!

Hi there do not really know what to suggest but I have had an ear infection for over a week and can categorically state that it is:
Incredibly painful.
Definitely the pain worsens late afternoon and evenings despite having taken regular painkillers.

I am an adult and can verbalise this.I have been an unbelievably bad tempered grouch!!!

Maybe your little one is getting more pain in the afternoon/evenings???

Hope she is better soon

haven't they given you anyibiotics to clear the infection???????????????????
This is one thing I don't understand in the UK.They give you paracetamol and nurofen and expect you to clench your teeth through one week of pain and fever when it could be sorted within 48h.
Otitis is probably the MOST painfull common ailment in children! Get her checked again. Poor thing.

They often don't give antibs these days- studies have shown it usually makes no difference to recovery rates. DS3 was recently in hospital as he had a febrile convulsion with an ear infection (both ears) and they would not give an antib. That has changed from ds1's time (now 7) he was given loads for ear infections.
