Know a child who is 4 and carries a muslin cloth round and it is given to her at the first sign of distress. Child takes it to pre school etc , I find it unhygenic as it often gets flung around by the child.!

Any thoughts ?

dd1 had/still has a blankie. she is 7. it was great at defusing tantrums, and helping her sleep. i used to wrap her in it and hold her on my lap. now it only comes out when she is ill and she even allows dd3 to snuggle in it.

dd3 has 3 taggies. they also help calm her down, again whilst being held on my lap, she will fiddle with the tags and is soothed. i dont just thrust their comfortors at them but use them as an extra prop really.

the taggoes can be replaced, unfortunatly the blanket is a OAK as was made especially for dd1 by one of MIL friends.

I know when DS1 needs Bear and when he needs me, because he asks for either. Sometimes it's Bear and me, sometimes just Bear, sometimes just me.

I agree with Aloha's posts on this thread.

Gosh, my ds is 5 in April and still has his buuny that he's had from birth. Of course he does not take it to school but always asks for bunny when he is tired/upset or ill.

We'd all be devaststed if we lost Bunny.

Coming to this late but I had a blanket until I was 26 yrs old.
In a moment of utter madness I threw it away after we moved house as it had been packed in a box...I thought I'd survive without.

7 yr later I have nightmares about it being in a landfil site somewhere.

What on earth was I thinking???

Ds1,2, 3 and now 4 all have a blanket and for obvious reasons(see above) I really can't see a problem with it.

LadyTophamHatt · 18/02/2007 16:13

(I used to hide my blanket if I went away for the weekend so that no-one else could touch/use/steal it)

I still have my blanket! Now disguised as a little cushion. I hide it when the cleaners come but dh and dc don't think the worse of me for it.

sauce · 18/02/2007 16:18

I've had it since I was born. There are pictures of us together when we were both babies...

...and yes, I've killed the thread with my weirdness! Everyone has turned away in silent embarassment.

misdee · 18/02/2007 16:25

dh still has a bear. i used to sneak him into the hospital for dh and then take him home as he didnt want it lost.
