9 year old using deoderant?

DD is 9 years old (10 in June this year) she has been asking for deoderant for a while after she got a freebie one when she completed the Race for Life last year.

I have been holding out because I really didn't think that girls started to 'smell' until they reached puberty (or even the start of) which DD doesn't appear to have any vestige of signs of this.

Today she said she smells after she's been doing PE/games and speaking to DH he says he's noticed as well (why on earth he didn't say anything to me I don't know!).

Is this something that happens earlier than puberty? I really have no idea!

yes dd has been using deoderant since she was about 7. She is only just hitting puberty now at nearly 11 so I dont think its related

She just wants to be a little more grown up, could you buy her an unscented one, cant do any harm.

I was advised to start using deodourant by my Mum when I was about 10. I think it is the start of puberty but doesn't mean her periods are around the corner. I didn't get mine till I was 13.

My dd1 has just started using it - she was wiffy and i didn't want her getting picked on, i'd rather she wore deodarent. She's only 7.

i know wangle, even something as simple as buying them deoderant breaks your heart unfortunately its all downhill from there on!!!

arent there some health isssues around prolonged use of deo? or is that anti perspirant only?

dd10yrs uses it too. Cheapo ones from tesco like Impulse.
I dont mind as she too is a bit smelly at times. I would hate for her friends to say something about being smelly.
Some of her friends probably have them thats why.

Try and use biosen as it is aluminum free there are very few products that are and there has been worrying research into the effects of it - linked with Alzheimers and possible component in breast cancer.
It is a bit more excpensive but worth it for the peace of mind. Those cheap deodorants are nasty.
It is important that she feels confident and 'pong'free as kids need very little excuse to be cruel.

missymoosal - where can you get 'biosen' is it a chemist or do the supermarkets sell it?

mosschops30 - I know what you mean, school had a valentines disco last Friday and DD had a 'date' with a boy in her class and they danced! I wanted to shout 'YOU ARE ONLY 9' (but restrained myself lol!)

I buy mine in Tescos there are stick or spray options which ever she prefers only a very mild scent. All my family use it as my dh is a biochemist and will not allow any other stuff in the house.

Pitrok are natural. They don't stop you actually sweating though but they do stop the smell.

dd1 (10) wanted to try it recently after getting sweaty at gym. However I have recently noticed that dd2 (8)is getting smelly and I have to change her school top everu day or tow now. I was a bit shocked too.
