16 month old trying to hit ans throwing things!

Hi, my 16 month old daughter has been generally a placid little girl, but recently she has started throwing her toys and trying to hit, this happens at home and at Toddler Group. I think she has learnt this from the group we go to, as I've seen other children do it there. I tell her no and take her away from the situation, but she's still doing it, is there anything else I could do, obviously she's too young for time out and wouldn't grasp the concept of it yet. I just find it really embarrassing.

Why are you embarrassed? She's just a baby she's learning her way, many young toddlers will do this including my own DS and my DD a little bit at a similar age. Just say 'no, dont throw' and repeat every single time she does it. take the toy that she has thrown away and let her play with something different.
In a few months she will understand this concept and if you are consistent she will stop doing it.

But throwing things is like a magic trick - one minute something is in your hand and next minute, poof, it's gone and you can never be sure where it will end up. No wonder she enjoys it! And I expect hitting causes a big reaction too, she won't understand that it hurts but she will be fascinated about how the other person reacts to her actions.

It is all part of her learning and very normal, as "waiting" says just keep calm and repeat "no" every time. Distract her with a different toy or a new game (anything really). If she is hitting then maybe try ignoring your DD while you comfort the other child or adult - so the "victim" gets all the attention rather than your DD getting lots of lovely attention. Calmly removing her from situations where she is persistently hitting sounds sensible to me.

Waiting-It was embarrassing because she did it to a little boy, who was snatching from her before, so think frustration on her part too and when the parent took her son away as my daughter hit him, she just tutted and gave me an evil glare. I will persist with saying no and use distraction and I'm sure she will give up soon.
