Sticky eye

Advice needed! Dd was born with sticky eye. Din't clear up straightaway, so was swabbed and tested but no infection. GP has just said is blocked tear duct and will get better eventually.
Now, at 20 weeks, still sticky most days. Doesn't seem to cause any distress, I clean it regularly with cooled boiled water but it seems to be taking forever to clear up. Anyone else had it this long? Any suggestions? I'm popping out now so apologies if I don't reply straight back.

Both my sons had the same and the health visitor told me to put breast milk in the eye. Sounds weird but cleared it up within days. There is some sort of antibacterial property to breast milk. Obviously not so good if you are bottle feeding!!!! Good luck, hope it clears soon.

The standard treatment for sticky eye when mydd1 was born was a squirt of breastmilk! Weren't you advised to use that when she was born? Do you still have any to use now? It is magic stuff, has antiseptic properties.

My DS had this and I used to apply pressure lightly to the tear duct with a clean tissue - stuff used to squirt out was quite disgusting really!!

Did the breastmilk thing and then a new german doctor gave me some saline and had me wash his eye with it every day and it cleared up!!

Thanks for suggestions. I was breastfeeding for 12 weeks and used milk then, but it didn't work. The peeing idea is intruiging - she's managed to get most bodily fluids into most places so I guess that's only a matter of time!
It just looks worse than it is I guess. Someone else said it can take ages to go, and my hv and gp don't see it as a problem,so I think patience is perhaps the answer. I'll come back in two years if we're still suffering -an apt smiley!

My DS had this too - it has just started to clear up of its own accord and he is 22 weeks. I never found that breastmilk or amything else made a difference, I just kepy it clean so it didn't look unsightly. The GP told me that as long as the white of the eye did not go red, there was nothing to worry about...and that it could take up to a year before his tearduct developed properly
