Potty training regression??

Just looking for some help please!
3.5yr ds was potty trained a year ago - took a wile but has been fine
He is now weeing and pooing in his pants several times a day. He refuses to go up to the toilet even when it's obvious he needs to go. We just don't know what to do - he just isn't bothered by it one bit and would happily sit smelling of poo all day
We have a 6 week ds and ds2 seems happy with him, no other upset so I am not sure if it is linked and even if it is what to do
Please help - I am so sleep deprived and frustrated with this huge step backwards

It took our lo ages to stop doing this. She was brilliant and then suddenly couldnt be bothered and as we didnt tell her off for it she seemed to get worse.
We put in place a reward chart in the end (still not telling off) the reward was playing in our car on the drive as she loved it. She worked really hard at not soiling herself as she loved the reward. We did the reward chart 3 times, she nailed it every time. She is now dry during the day.
Nightime is another story lol x

Thanks daisie - looks like we will go back to a reward chart. He loves stickers so that may help. It just feels such a huge backwards step as we had done all this over a year ago

My son was the same when our DD was born. He was absolutely fine with her, adorable in fact, but his emotions manifested in potty regression. We didn't make a big deal out of it and it sorted itself out within a few weeks.

Thanks - I worry that he is really upset about the new baby and not telling us but he is so loving (overly so - the poor baby!) it's just hard.
Hopefully it will sort itself out - we had 3 accidents in a row the other day despite being at home and reminding him to go

I'm sure this is related to the new baby. My DD regressed on toilet training when she started nursery even though she seemed to be enjoying it. I don't think it means that your DS is really upset, just that it's a transition time for him and he can't keep all the balls in the air iykwim!

That's reassuring. I guess as much as we have tried to keep things as normal as possible it is a big change
Will this just resolve itself? What is the best way to handle it?

DD2 did this after DS2 was born. I agree with the other posters who say it happens and is normal. She was 4, nearly 5, and we simply put her back into training pants, saying she'd be less uncomfy if she had an accident but it didn't matter if she did, accidents could happen to anybody. We gave her a bit more fussing but not when she was wet which we just dealt with in a very matter of fact way. In fact we left clean pants out for her in her room and suggested she go and change herself and bring the wet pants back with her so that there was no benefit for her in extra attention from being wet. From memory it lasted about 7 or 8 weeks but from being several times a day tailed off at the end to once or twice a week and then back to normal.
