One year developmental check

Just been to baby clinic to get my almost 10 month DD weighed and asked HV whether I needed to book an appointment for the one year developmental check or whether they would contact me. Was told they no longer offer them! Yet they are still mentioned on NHS website.

Anyone else not been offered one for their child?

that's funny - we were told it would be between 9-12 months and the appointment was at almost 9 months on the dot! that was only 3 months ago. we are in London, where are you?

I was told my HV would contact me at some point when DS was between 9-12 months to book in for a check up but haven't heard anything yet. He is 10 months. Sorry that's not much help!

They do them between 2-3 now instead of 1 where we are.

We had a 1 year check in June

We're in Surrey- the ex-Middlesex part of it.

They no longer do the two year check either. They don't seem to offer any checks now at all?

My DC is 9mnts today, the letter turned up yesterday. Rung them and there is a month waiting list for an appointment.

Dd had one in July, just before she turned one.

They must offer the one and two year checks.

Your local council commission them - might be worth getting on touch with them?

I was told at the 6 month check that they didn't have the staff to do a 1 year check so next one would be the 2 year check. This is in Northern Ireland.

And yet in Scotland there are 8 checks in the first year and three more before thw child is five

We had 1 year checks (well 10 months), but that was early last year, so may have changed since.

Also had 2 year check (think it's supposed to be between 25 and 28 months?) last month.

We're in West Hertfordshire.

I got my letter and appt for my ds today

It hasn't changed. You should be offered one. The 2y check should be between 24 and 30 months

Ours is contracted to Virgincare (stupid name when you consider who they're dealing with!). There have been other cuts- the postnatal support group that ran weekly was stopped a month before I gave birth. I didn't do NCT so had been expecting to go to that to meet people with babies the same age.

Would it be commissioned by Surrey County Council or Spelthorne Borough Council?

I've emailed the contact centre at Surrey County Council as it wasn't very clear from their website who's responsible for it.

I also checked the Virgincare website and it actually mentions the development checks there as something they do in my area...

I imagine it'll take a while to hear back from the council, as they invariably have a 'we'll reply within ten working days' thing going on. At least the Borough Council always seems to!

LAs are mandated to commission it. Some provide it. It actually has nothing to do with the nhs any more other than in areaa where the provider is nhs.

Got a ref. no. and should get a response of some kind within five working days...

Got a response at the end of last week:
"Owing to our capacity issues for HV in Spelthorne recently we had been offering the following:

We have been offering New birth visits and have seen 90% of new births within 18weeks.
We have been offering 6-8 weeks reviews and have achieved 83% of these.
We are now rolling out the 2 year checks universally across Spelthorne
We have been offering targeted reviews at 1 year but due to an increase in staffing recently we are planning the roll out of this offer universally also.
The clinical team leaders are reviewing and planning to pilot a range of options for antenatal contacts."

To me that sounds a bit rubbish, considering that all of those things are meant to be offered universally. 90% of new births are seen within 18 weeks - they're hardly a new birth by that age, are they?! I wasn't offered a 6-8 week review either - I told the HV I had been diagnosed with PND at 4 weeks, she noted that I had no family support locally (other than DH), suggested I go to a group at the local children's centre and that was it, haven't heard from her since (baby now 10.5 months).
