Help - 6 month old up for 2 hours each night and won't settle

I'm writing this at 3am and we've been up since 1.30 with our LO and she still won't settle.

Her naps are good, she has a nice prompt bedtime and is eating and drinking normally but for the past 5 nights she's been waking and then won't settle for 2 - 3 hrs. We've tried milk - doesn't want it, holding her - she falls asleep but wakes when we put her down, leaving her - she just does a grumbly cry and bangs her legs and arms in the cot.

She self settles brilliantly for naps and when we put her to bed but just not in the night. She doesn't have a dummy and does have a cuddly comforter toy.

We're at our wits end, exhausted and don't know what to do!

We've tried that and have still been there after 2 hours with no improvement.
